Making homemade dishwasher detergent has come with a lot of trial and error. I experimented months ago, and kind of gave up. But then I realized we were down to our last few store-bought tabs and I didn’t want to go buy anymore after I used those up.
So here we are with this one-minute powder!
INGREDIENTS
- 3/4 cup washing soda
- 3/4 cup baking soda
- 3/4 cup citric acid
- 1/2 cup salt
INSTRUCTIONS
- Combine all ingredients in a glass jar and mix together.
- Store in a cool, dry place.
- Fill dishwasher compartment (about 2 tablespoons) with powder and make sure that it is dry before placing your powder as the citric acid will react to water.
- Run dishwasher as normal!
Reason #438 why I love garage sales. I got the CUTEST green jar for a dollar that is perfect for my homemade dishwashing detergent. And it comes with a teeny spoon! I love it.
Before settling on this recipe, I tried a couple of homemade recipes to see what might work best. While they left my dishes clean, they ended up with an unwanted residue.
Plus, I wanted something simple. A number of the other recipes I tried contained a lot of ingredients. The one I’ve settled on uses just four. Also, unlike homemade tablets, this recipe doesn’t have to sit out and dry before you can use it. I whipped this up and used it on a load of dirty dishes within minutes.
I hope you enjoy this quick and easy natural alternative!
