I love taking baths as they are a part of my weekly self-care routine. Every Sunday night I light a candle, hop in the bath, prop open a good book, or watch a show. This time of year I’ve loved watching a classic cheesy Christmas movie. (Shout out to the Hallmark Channel!)
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup corn starch
- 1/2 cup citric acid
- 15 drops peppermint essential oil
- 1/2 cup Epsom salt
- 6 bath bomb molds
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 3 drops red food coloring
- 3 drops green food coloring
INSTRUCTIONS
- Split the Epsom salts into two small bowls. Add 3 drops of green food coloring in one bowl, and 3 drops of red in the other. Stir each of those individually.
- Add the corn starch, citric acid, and baking soda into a large bowl. Stir.
- Melt the coconut oil in a bowl to liquify. Slowly add in the coconut oil to the bowl. (Adding wet ingredients causes the citric acid to start reacting – so always pour in slowly).
- Add in the essential oil and stir.
- Spritz with water until you get a mixture that feels like damp sand. (Again, spray slowly as water will start a reaction with the citric acid).
- Dump in the colored Epsom salts and stir to combine.
- Pack the mixture tightly into the mold.
- Allow to dry for 24 hours. (For this mold, what worked best for me was removing the top half of the mold and allowing to harden another 24 hours.)
The ingredients you will need are below:
Separate the Epsom salts into two bowls so you can add 3 drops of green in one bowl and 3 drops of red food coloring in the other.
Add in the dry ingredients (corn starch, citric acid, and baking soda). Stir to combine.
Melt the coconut oil to liquid form and slowly stir in. (Wet ingredients will react with the citric acid so always add slowly).
Spray with water little by little until you get a mixture that resembles damp sand.
Combine the colored salts and stir to combine.
Pack the mixture as tightly as possible into your container and press down to keep it as compact as possible. (The molds I used were from Michael’s. They came in a pack of 6 and I don’t technically think they are made for bath bombs, but they worked!)
Allow to harden for 24-48 hours. Depending on the mold you use, hardening times may vary.
